Dragados UK Ltd Visitor Centre, Walker Park, Aberdeen, AB11 8QX
12th April 2018
Main Speakers: Douglas Fairley - Doig + Smith, Andrew Gordon - Dragados UK Commercial Manager and Jose Enrique Perez, Dragados UK Project Director
The Aberdeen Harbour Expansion Project is one of the largest marine civil engineering projects for many decades. and will represent a vital and sizeable economic driver for the city and region. The new facilities will be transformational in terms of the port’s capacity to accommodate the existing trend for larger scale vessels, thereby allowing existing customers to grow their business, whilst opening up the city and region to a wide range of potential new markets.
The Project will create ‘South Harbour’, a new deep-water facility at Nigg Bay, to the south of the existing harbour and will consist of a dredged basin between 9 and 10.5m deep, protected by two 600m breakwaters. It will also provide 1400m of new quays and 125,000 metres of laydown area.
After seven years of planning, studies and public engagement, construction on the project commenced in 2017. Our presenters will be able to provide an overview of the journey undertaken by the Harbour Board, its stakeholders and its principal contractor, Dragados to reach the point we find ourselves at today.
