Transforming North-South Rail Travel Through London - The Sponsorship Story of Thameslink Programme
13th June 2019 at 6.15pm
University of Westminster, 35 Marylebone Road, London, NW1 5LS
Main Speaker: Nick Gray
The main objective of the £7bn Thameslink Programme is to increase passenger capacity by transforming north to south rail travel through the centre of London. This involved the extension of platforms to accommodate longer 12 carriage trains, introducing new class 700 rolling stock, improving track and signalling infrastructure to enable driver only operations as well as modernising several stations (including Farringdon, Blackfriars, London Bridge) along the route to cope with larger passenger numbers and provide better accessibility, retail and welfare facilities.
Successful delivery of Thameslink Programme depended on the competent sponsorship which provided consistent leadership, clear vision, governance, value and benefits. This session, will showcase the “bigger picture” of Thameslink Programme from the perspective of the Principal Programme Sponsor – covering the initiation, the planning, the implementation & control, the closing and benefits realisation.
